Spotlight on Summer Interns

Exploring Careers, Gaining Experience, and Making an Impact

Each summer, High Companies welcomes a group of talented interns who bring fresh perspectives, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn. These students step into real-world roles across departments, from engineering and construction to marketing, HR, and legal, gaining hands-on experience while contributing meaningfully to our teams.

This year’s interns have taken on exciting projects, built valuable relationships, and grown both personally and professionally. In their own words, here’s a look at who they are, what they’ve been working on, and what they’ve learned along the way.

Ben Alban

Estimating Intern, High Companies
Ben supports the Estimating Department with 3D modeling, updating the subcontractor database, mock budgeting, and mock projects. His favorite part of the internship has been meeting and connecting with new people. He hopes to gain valuable experience and career readiness.

Advice to future interns: Work hard to get what you want.

Madison Arroyo

Marketing & Event Planning Intern, High Associates/Greenfield
Madison’s responsibilities include coordinating events, managing email outreach, enhancing company websites through SEO optimization, and collaborating on social media projects. She enjoys working with passionate, supportive coworkers and is eager to grow her marketing skills in a real-world setting.

Advice to future interns: Ask questions and learn from everyone around you, even those in different departments. Everyone here wants to see you grow. 

Alexander Columbia

Legal Intern, High Companies
Alexander assists the General Counsel with legal matters across multiple businesses. He values the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals and gain insight into real-world legal work. He’s enjoyed learning things that he didn’t learn from his law school classes.

Advice to future interns: Be bold. Put yourself in situations and conversations you never thought you belonged in. You’ll be surprised by how much you’re capable of.

Kara Conner

Legal Intern, High Companies
Kara works with the General Counsel and Paralegal, assisting with cover letter drafting, reviewing legal documents, organizing files, and assisting in other legal matters. She has enjoyed the people she has met and appreciates learning how legal functions operate within a corporate environment.

Advice to future interns: Take everything one day at a time; the present day is the only time in your control.

Khalil Croxton

Construction Management Intern, High Construction
Khalil assists with site observations, first installs, managing dehumidifiers, coordinating with subcontractors, and creating cheat sheets. He enjoys being on-site and building relationships with subcontractors and the team. His goal is to understand what it’s like to be a leader on a job site and the responsibilities that come with it. 

Advice to future interns: Build relationships with as many people as possible. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Try everything offered to you.

Andrew Donahue

Civil/Structural Engineering Intern, High Concrete Group
Andrew supports the design team with research and resource tracking, while observing precast plant operations. He enjoys learning about operations in the plants and seeing engineering concepts come to life. He hopes to gain insight into the engineering behind precast concrete production. 

Advice to future interns: Always be open to trying new things, ask questions, and learn from mistakes. 

Carly Huber

Construction Management Intern, High Construction Company
Carly supports the Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers on Greenfield North Apartments. Her responsibilities include organizing Operations and Maintenance manuals, managing submittals, and implementing QR codes for punch list tracking. She values the exposure, hands-on learning, and strong company culture.

Advice to future interns: Take initiative and stay curious, ask questions, attend meetings, and volunteer for things even outside your comfort zone.

Katelyn Johnson

Corporate Marketing Intern, High Companies
Katelyn creates social media content, assists with video shoots, edits headshots, and supports internal campaigns. She has also helped develop marketing guides and provided creative support. She enjoys the creative freedom and seeing her work shared across the company.

Advice to future interns: Take the jump. You never know what is waiting for you. Taking that risk could be the best decision you’ll ever make. Ask questions and try to learn something new every day. 

Christina Kelly

Marketing & Events Intern, High Associates
This summer, Christina has been actively involved in creating social media content, producing event recap videos, coordinating and attending events, managing the Greenfield website calendar and Calvin G. High Pavilion rentals, and coordinating with local food trucks. She enjoys seeing her work come to life at events and learning from professionals across departments.

Advice to future interns: Take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way. Whether the task seems exciting or not, every experience is a chance to learn, build connections, and grow professionally.

Ryan Loraw

Corporate Insurance Intern, High Companies
Ryan’s responsibilities span administrative, analytical, and inter-business support tasks. He assists the underwriting and claims departments with data entry, document management, policy review, and vendor coordination. He enjoys collaborating across departments and seeing how insurance supports broader business operations. 

Advice to future interns: Learn how your work fits into the bigger picture. Don’t just complete tasks, understand their impact. 

William Mickulik

Estimating/Industrial Engineering Intern, High Steel Structures
William tracks machine operations and compares real-time data to estimates. He enjoys working with the plant teams and learning about engineering and machinery.

Advice to future interns: Ask as many questions as possible.

Maxine Rann Intern Headshot

Maxine Rann

Marketing Intern, High Concrete Group
Maxine works with the Marketing and Sales teams on PCI Award submissions, creating project profiles, crafting social media content, and photographing plant tours and mock-ups. She values learning how Sales and Marketing collaborate and discovering her interests within the field. She’s enjoying exploring different aspects of marketing and sales to help guide her future career path.

Advice to future interns: Say yes to new experiences that push you outside your comfort zone. Ask questions, stay open to feedback, and get involved wherever you can. 

Owen Replogle

Engineering Intern, High Steel
Owen supports the design team by developing computer models and checking calculations to determine the capacity of steel members. He enjoys collaborating on real-world projects and is hoping to better understand how computer modeling can be leveraged without being too heavily relied on. 

Advice to future interns: Say no to as few things as possible and take any opportunity.

Chad Royer

High Associates Intern, High Companies
Chad gathers and inputs comparative sales data for industrial and commercial/office land and buildings into a database. He also updates contact information, property status, and ownership for industrial and multi-family properties. Additionally, he supports marketing events and special projects. He enjoys the variety of tasks and departments he works with. His goal is to leave the internship with a portfolio of experience that helps guide his future career path. 

Advice to future interns: It never hurts to ask. A polite question can open doors to countless opportunities. 

Ryan Schenck

Preconstruction Intern, High Concrete Group
Ryan assists with preconstruction processes such as 3D modeling and contributes to design decisions alongside the team. He enjoys learning new tools and gaining experience that will support his future in architecture.

Advice to future interns: Don’t be afraid to take risks; even if you make mistakes, you’ll always come out more experienced.

Hannah Sult

Talent Development Intern (Human Resources), High Companies
Hannah is redesigning the new hire benefits presentation and creating training-themed stickers. She enjoys learning about the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources department through her team and hands-on projects.

Advice to future interns: Always take opportunities that are offered to you. 

Nicholas Trott

Construction Management Intern, High Construction Company
Nicholas has been working on submittals for the Greenfield North Apartments project, placing QR code throughout the buildings, and visiting different constructions sites. He’s also been using tools like Procore, On-Screen Takeoff, and SmartBid to assist with estimating and subcontractor outreach. He values the welcoming team and the chance to learn every day.

Advice to future interns: Get to know the people you work with. Building relationships brings joy and helps you learn more.

Donovan Weik

Engineering Intern, High Concrete Group
Donovan supports the design team by analyzing and reporting on past project data. He enjoys reviewing old projects and learning how different engineering elements come together. He’d like to gain a better understanding of the skills the engineers use daily.

Advice to future interns: Always be open to learning. You will be wrong; accept it and learn from it. 

As the summer winds down, we’re incredibly proud of everything our interns have accomplished. Their curiosity, creativity, and commitment have made a lasting impression on our teams and our culture. Whether they were analyzing data, coordinating events, managing construction tasks, or crafting marketing content, each intern brought something unique to the table.

We’re excited to see where their journeys take them next, and we hope their time at High has helped shape the path ahead. Thank you to all our interns for a fantastic summer!
